Looking back at these three months at Kaito Yumin Club, I can officially say that this was far more than just an internship it was an incredible adventure on the Toba Sea!
As a French intern who is passionate about outdoor activities and eco-tourism, my goal was to discover local culture while helping our guests enjoy the best possible experience on the water. Today, I’m leaving with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for this magnificent region.
What this experience taught me:
• The Joy of Guiding & Teaching: There is nothing quite like taking guests onto the water, teaching them the funny “Ashi, Oshiri, Ashi!” technique, and seeing complete beginners gain confidence within minutes.
• Cultural Immersion & Local Heritage: From discovering the extraordinary strength, warmth, and culinary magic of the legendary Ama divers (who proved to have far better cardio than me!) to accompanying a school fishing excursion, I got to experience Toba’s living traditions firsthand.
• Sharing the Beauty of Toba: Guiding tours, assisting school groups, and showing our visitors the local marine life made me fall in love with the area’s rich nature and unique maritime lifestyle.
• Creating Happy Memories: Whether helping paddlers master their steering, supporting students during their fishing adventure, sharing local anecdotes, or simply enjoying the tranquil sea, every tour was about bringing smiles to people’s faces.
Working alongside the passionate team at Kaito Yumin Club taught me the true meaning of Japanese hospitality (Omotenashi). Guiding guests from all over the world across these crystal-clear waters and learning alongside local legends has been an extraordinary privilege.
To the wonderful team, the inspiring Ama divers, the lively school groups, and every guest who shared a paddle or a moment on the water with me: Domo arigatou gozaimasu! This experience will stay with me forever.
